Design: Purposeful, But Polished |
The Expedition Use CaseThis new Unimog arrives at a moment when expedition vehicles are undergoing a cultural shift. Overland travel, scientific exploration, remote filmmaking, and high-end adventure tourism are all expanding rapidly. Buyers want vehicles that can reach the end of the map—and stay there comfortably.
In that context, the Unimog’s relevance has never been greater. Unlike converted pickup trucks or heavily modified SUVs, the Unimog is designed from the ground up for extreme environments. The chassis welcomes custom bodies: mobile laboratories, camper modules, communications centers, or support vehicles. Payload capacity remains immense, and durability is engineered in, not added later. Where others adapt, the Unimog belongs. |
Will It Come Here?Although this luxury Unimog is currently mainly a show vehicle, Mercedes has indicated plans to run it in real-world conditions in 2026, potentially informing a future production variant. As for our part here at Metron Garage we hope this makes production and is brought here into the United States. We echo the statement made by Franziska Cusumano, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks: “With the luxury Unimog show car, we have realized our vision of combining the legendary robustness and off-road capability of the Unimog with an entirely new standard of comfort and engineering skills. This Unimog is a statement of innovation and passion.” |
